Somali Pirates

sanlynn: 9:19AM GMT 28 APRIL 2009

Today the problem is these small bands of pirates, but what happens if hostile nations start doing the same thing. Then it becomes a huge problem and we'll be out there twiddling our thumbs while the Somali Navy decides what to do with a crew. We've got to nip this in the bud now.

C'mon. Who are we kidding? It's no big deal. These guys are a joke.

cooldad41: 6:58AM GMT 28 APRIL 2009

I'm not going to invest in any company that deals with shipping until this is straightened out. I see this getting worse.

charlenepow: 1:35AM GMT 28 APRIL 2009

Why does the U.S. have to take the lead on this? Sounds like the Indians have the right idea. Shoot first and ask questions later.

davissj: 10:13PM GMT 27 APRIL 2009

Shivver me timbers. Arrgh, matey.

ibupro: 7:02PM GMT 27 APRIL 2009

Why don't you write something about piracy in regards to music and movies? That's where the real problem lies. Sure, it's serious when armed thugs board a ship in the Indian Ocean, but it's also serious when a guy in a three-piece suit can download a movie on the Internet for free. No one is physically hurt, but this is the piracy that robs the artists that need the financial support.

I think Obama acted properly when he had the snipers take those guys out. I didn't vote for the guy, but he definitely showed some decision.

majorleaguez: 4:42PM GMT 27 APRIL 2009

Shouldn't the companies know better than send out an unarmed ship into pirate-infested waters? They're getting what they deserve.

docblue: 4:17PM GMT 27 APRIL 2009

I like the idea of putting military patrols on these ships. That will stop them cold. They aren't likely to board a boat that's protected by the Marines.

Getting the United Nations involved would be a mistake. That would ensure that nothing gets done. It would only create a bottleneck of indecision.
